We have already been treated to a few Pokemon that we are going to meet in the Alola region and the spree of information about our new companions is still flowing. Lets meet some of the new Pokemon.
Magearna : Steel/Fairy
Tapu Koko is another mythical Pokemon, much like Megearna, and is the Guardian deity of Melemele Island. Its special ability is known as Electric Surge which activates the move Electric Terrain when it is sent into battle. Electric Terrain transforms the field and provides a boost to all electric type moves.
Rockruff : Rock
This cute Rock type Pokemon has a rather endearing appearance, with it being a Puppy Pokemon. While its ability isn’t set in stone, chance has it that it will arrive on the scene with Keen Eye which prevents it from losing accuracy or Vital Spirit which will prevent it from being put to sleep.
Komala : Normal
Komala finally brings a taste of Australia to Pokemon with one of our native animals, the Koala being used for the design. Its ability known as Comatose which prevents this Pokemon from being affected by any status condition except for sleep. This suits the Koala inspired Pokemon as Koalas spend approximately 20 hours a day sleeping.
Yungoos : Normal
This Mongoose looking Pokemon which seems to have an anger problem can come with two possible abilities, Stakeout which allows this Pokemon to deal double the damage if your opponent has just switched Pokemon, as well as Strong Jaw which increases the power of bite based moves by half.
Pikipek : Normal/Flying
Pikipek which looks like a slightly less animated Woody Woodpecker is a small bird type Pokemon which, like many Pokemon on this list, can come with two possible moves. The first is Keen Eye which prevents accuracy loss and the second is a new ability known as Skill Link which increases the amount of hits that multi-hit moves, such as Pin Missile, can do.
Grubbin : Bug
Grubbin is a simple bug type Pokemon that holds the ability, Swarm which boosts the damage of bug type moves, when its health drops below 50%.
Charjabug : Bug/Electric
Charjabug is the evolution of Grubbin and seems to be most useful as a slightly more mobile charging station. This is the case, especially with its ability, Battery which powers up the special moves of friendly Pokemon.
Vikavolt : Bug/Electric
Vikavolt is the Destiny Sparrow looking, evolved form of Charjabug. It definitely looks hostile and utilises the ability Levitate which makes it immune to all types of ground based moves.
Drampa : Normal/Dragon
The quite odd looking Drampa makes use of two different abilities. The first, Berserk, boosts its Special Attack stat when its health drops below half and the second, being Sap Sipper, which boosts its attack when hit with a grass type move.
Bruxish : Water/Psychic
Bruxish appears as if someone has thrown several buckets of paint at it and just left the scene but it definitely holds a tropical vibe. It has two main abilities it makes use of with the first one being Dazzling which prevents any move with an increased speed priority from landing. That means moves such as Quick Attack will not be able to hit. The second ability is Strong Jaw which boosts the power of bite based moves.
Cutiefly : Bug/Fairy
The tiny little Cutiefly has two possible abilities that any variety of trainer can make use of. Honey Gather, gives your Pokemon a chance of picking up a Honey item after a battle while Shield Dust prevents any additional effects of a move that does damage. An example of this is that Cutiefly won’t be able to be paralysed after being hit with a Body Slam move.
Togedemaru : Steel/Electric
A theme with most of the newer Pokemon, Togedemaru can have a possible two abilities. The first is Iron Barbs which damages opposing Pokemon if they touch Togedemaru and the second is, Lightningrod which leads to all electric based moves used against this Pokemon, being absorbed.
Salandit : Poison/Fire
Salandit is quite a cool new Pokemon and holds a brand new ability known as Corrosion which allows Salandit to poison any opposing Pokemon regardless of the typing. This means that even poison types are vulnerable to Salandit.
