In the gameplay reveal for Destiny 2, we learn how our favourite PVE and Crucible activities will be changing.
There is actually not much to say about Strikes in terms of new mechanics. Destiny 2 will launch with a few new Strikes with the Inverted Spire one being unveiled at the reveal, with invited Guardians able to play through it. In the Strike, which is held on the Red Legion controlled planet of Nessus, Guardians will stumble into a Vex stronghold and have to battle against a three stage boss. Definitely looking forward to this one.
Aside from what we expected, with new maps being brought to Destiny 2, the new and improved Crucible will feature 4v4 across all game modes. This, Bungie have said will serve to allow players to attempt to master the modes and their Guardian’s skills.
Speaking of game modes, several new ones are going to be introduced with the arrival of the sequel. Most notably is the mode known as Countdown, which is the first attack and defence mode in the Destiny universe.
Destiny 2 is going to have some amazing PVE features that will keep players engaged for a long time. Firstly I should talk about the new areas that we are able to explore. On the Earth we will be able to hunt throughout the European Dead Zone, which is the largest zone that the team at Bungie have ever created. We will also be able to explore the worlds of Titan, Io and Nessus, the latter of which is under the control of the Red Legion. It is also the location where we will find Cayde-6 after he goes on his little hero bender.
So, back to the activities. Patrols and Public Events have been altered, to make them more enjoyable and replayable. There are also certain quests known as Adventures, which are given to you by the vast array of interactive characters that are outside the confines of the Tower. Bungie have said that they wanted their world and environments to feel more inhabited and less empty, and these characters and missions that they give you will definitely serve that purpose.
Finally there are the Lost Sectors, another completely new mechanic that only really works now that the worlds in Destiny 2 are so much larger than those in the first instalment. These Lost Sectors are discoverable and explorable dungeons that have a loot cache at the end of them, guarded by a mini-boss with a key to access the loot. Kill the boss and get the loot, bing bang boom.
It should also be mentioned that everyones favourite part of Destiny is going to be a thing of the past. Time spent in orbit will be much less, with the map showing the locations of the PVE events when they are occurring. Not only that but you will be able to travel from planet to planet, via the new map system, allowing you to skip the pesky orbit middle man, meaning more time to shoot aliens in the face.
