Exotic Review: D.A.R.C.I

Thank you for using the Data Analysis, Reconnaissance, and Cooperative Intelligence device. You may call be Darci.

It is always helpful to have a companion out in the harsh wilds while battling all the enemies massed against you. Meet Darci, the helpful neighbourhood Exotic sniper rifle that will help you boost your damage and increase your combat potential.

D.A.R.C.I utilises the Exotic perk Personal Assistant which shows off enemy health and critical information, right in the scope. Personal Assistant shows off all sorts of fun little HUD stats such as shield information, Power Level of enemies, distance away from your target and how much health the enemy has or has remaining, after you fire a few shots. This is backed up by the Trait Target Acquired, which allows for better target acquisition and more precision damage when Personal Assistant is active. This is such an easy Trait to activate because you just have to ads on your target and it provides with easier target acquisition (aka easy precision shots) and a higher dose of precision damage. D.A.R.C.I is an Exotic that rewards you for aiming and for scoring headshots.

D.A.R.C.I also comes with Extended Barrel, which provides a boost to range, which is always a good thing for a sniper rifle, alongside decreased handling speed, which doesn’t really affect it as much. Extended Mag is up next, which boosts the magazine size of this Exotic seven rounds. The drawback to this is that it does less damage per shot falling in with lower impact than many Legendary sniper rifles. However, it also fires a lot quicker allowing for larger damage output if you are quick enough. D.A.R.C.I also comes with a Short-Action Stock, which greatly increases handling speed, basically nullifying the negative effects of Extended Barrel.

Performance

D.A.R.C.I In Game

D.A.R.C.I is fun to use in PVE, with Personal Assistant definitely providing a bit of an informed combat edge to Destiny 2. Despite it rocking a lower damage potential than other sniper rifles in the game, Target Acquired rewards a steady hand, making D.A.R.C.I ideal for larger scale bosses, from those found in Strikes to Public Events. They allow for a reliable use of the additional precision damage, even if you aren’t the greatest with a sniper rifle.

Crucible is another story, with it being able to cut through shields and Guardian’s heads with ease due to the bonus precision damage but to make the most out of it, you have to be nailing those headshots. If not, it is still a powerful gun but the Exotic potential goes to waste. In my experience at least, the information displayed by Personal Assistant didn’t really come much into play in the Crucible, with the focus being placed on quick precision shots more than anything else. That being said, quickscope-like shots may not get the Target Acquired bonus due to the scope not being zoomed in enough or on a single target long enough to activate Personal Assistant. Either way a headshot should take care of opposing Guardians.

While D.A.R.C.I is an interesting and fun weapon to use in Destiny 2, with a lot of damage potential, it seems more suited to PVE activities where the Exotic perks can be utilised to greater effect.
