It is no secret that Gearbox is working on Borderlands 3, and it is absolutely no secret that longtime fans of the series have been wanting the company to work on Borderlands 3. A few months ago, there was an Unreal Engine 4 tech demo that featured the same cell shading and comic book art style that the Borderlands franchise is known for.
While the company has been tight-lipped about the sequel that we all know is coming, a new job post searching for a comedy writer to work on, “an unannounced AAA FPS/RPG hybrid with strong characters and central narrative thread”. This basically sums up Borderlands verbatim and shows that the upcoming title is well underway.
With the tone of Borderlands 3 apparently being closer to that of the original game, we can expect a darker kind of humour that the wacky and in your face style that was seen throughout Borderlands 2. The job listing does not give anything away other than what we have known for a long time, with maybe a very minor spoiler being that there will be a serious underlying plot that the comedic tone of the game will have to work with.
