Yooka Laylee

Yooka-Laylee Is Coming To Switch And It Is A Match Made In Hivory Towers

Yooka-Laylee, that amazing nostalgia-inducing game from Playtonic has finally been gifted with a release date for the Nintendo Switch after months of challenges in developing a new console version. Many fans were becoming impatient with all the hype and excitement surrounding Yooka-Laylee and I can’t blame them for one simple reason – Yooka-Laylee seems like it was made for the Nintendo Switch.

Many gamers got their start with a handheld Nintendo console where Super Mario dominated the market with the simple style of gameplay that made for a wonderful and challenging experience. Yooka-Laylee is a nostalgic love letter to the past where games like Ratchet and Clank and Banjo Kazooie were king and the fact that it is finally coming to the Switch further adds to that nostalgia for past platformers.

Personally, I do not have a Switch (gave one to my girlfriend for Christmas which I am planning on stealing but that is another story) but I have played Yooka-Laylee quite extensively and was charmed by the result. There are collectables to discover, challenges to face and minigames to conquer and all of this becomes a lot more fun when you are not tied to a single location. Yooka-Laylee for Switch is a great step for the game and makes me remember a time where I would scour the worlds of Super Mario for every last tidbit no matter where I was.

But that is not all, Yooka-Laylee will be arriving with a whole lot of optimisation and special updates packed into the Switch version such as single Joy-Con support and the plethora of updates that the console version has been progressively getting since April. Unfortunately for fans of physical game copies, Yooka-Laylee for Switch will be a digital-only deal, at least for the time being so that the game can get into players hands as quickly as possible because let’s face it when gamers are passionate about something we tend to get impatient.

Yooka-Laylee for Switch will be arriving on December 14th, 2017, the wait is almost over and it is time to jump back in and hunt down those Pagies.
